தேவாரம் பாடியவர்களில் முதன்மையானவர் திருஞானசம்பந்தர். முருகப் பெருமானின் திரு அவதாரமாக சைவர்களால் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறவர்.  வைகாசி மாதம் மூல நட்சத்திரம் அன்று அவர் அவதாரம் பதினாறு வயதினில் நிறைவடைந்த தினம் ஆகும். திருஞானசம்பந்தரின் திருமேனிக்கு சிவபெருமானுடன் சேர்த்துவைத்து அபிஷேக வழிபாடுகளும் புறப்பாடும் செய்யப்பட்டு அர்த்தஜாம பூஜையின்போது சிவபெருமானுடன் திருஞானசம்பந்தரின் ஐக்கியக் காட்சி இடம்பெறும்.

Thirugnasambandhar is venerated as the foremost Nayanmar (Shaivite Saint). He is celebrated as an incarnation of Lord Muruga by Shaivites. It was on Vaikasi Moolam that his life on earth came to an end at the young age of sixteen. On this day, special Abhishekams and poojas are conducted for Thirugnasambandar and Lord Shiva. Thirugnasambandars will be united with Lord Shiva during the final prayers for the day as this was the day that he attained the Lord's feet.
