உலகில் இயல்பாகவே புனித உடையவை சில உள்ளன. இவற்றில் ஒன்று "சங்கு" ஆகும். சங்கு ஒரு இயற்கை கும்பமாகும், அதில் நிரம்பிய நீர் தீர்த்தமாகும். அது தனக்குள் பிரபஞ்ச ஒலியான பிரணவமந்திரத்தை இயல்பாக கொண்டுள்ளது(பிரணவம்-ஓம் ) ஆகவே சங்கால் செய்யும் அபிஷேகம் மிகவும் உயர்ந்தது. அபிஷேகத்திற்காக சங்குகளை குறிப்பிட்ட பல எண்ணிக்கைகளில் பூஜை செய்தல் ஆகம நெறியாகும். அவற்றுள் 108, 1008 எண்ணிக்கையே அதிகம் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. சங்காபிஷேகத்தால் அனைத்தும் தோஷங்களும் தீரும்.

 

Some things in this world are naturally sacred, the conch being one of them. The conch is a natural Kumbam (Sacred Pot) and the water it holds is Theertham (Sacred Water) because the primordial sound of Om is contained within it. Therefore, Abishegam performed with the conch is considered very sacred. The conch is used in specific numbers, as per the scriptures. 108 or 1008 conches are widely used. Sangabishegam, the ritual of bathing the deity with water from the conch, has the power to eliminate all negativities.
